Grace Digital Wireless Hi-fi Internet Radio Tuner featuring Pandora and NPR (GDI-IRDT200)

While there is always room for improvement, particularly in terms of ease of use and intuitiveness, this is exactly what I had been hoping for. As a New Yorker in self-imposed exile in Miami, I’ve long missed the ability to listen to my beloved WBGO through my stereo. (We’ve got jazz on the radio down here, but nothing like WBGO.) The sound quality over all is very good, and appears to depend on the strength of each station’s internet feed… some stations are extremely clear and comparable to a strong FM signal. Upon opening, I spent hours exploring music from around the world. This is the best electronic addition to my home in years. Read more »

Sony SSF-7000 Floor-Standing 4-way Speaker with 8″ Woofer (Pair)

I was skeptical at first of Sony speakers. However, after listening to these, my doubts were erased! Excellent highs and mids. The bass is a bit boomy, but by leaving the receiver bass settings at zero, and adding a subwoofer to provide the bass, you’ll be fine. Pair these up with good surround sound speakers, and a receiver with a THD of less than 1%, and you’ll be fine. These will rock! Read more »

Sonos Bridge Instant Setup Solution For Sonos Wireless Network (BR100)

After you rip all your CDs into an iTunes library, you run the Sonos “Desktop Controller,” which comes free with Sonos systems. This is one of the easiest and most intuitive software applications I’ve ever used. Just tell it to set up your music library. It finds your iTunes collection and “indexes” it in the Sonos system. Depending on the size of your collection, this may take a little while. With my collection of about 400 CDs, indexing takes about three minutes. After that, there is an automated process where the software “locates” your ZoneBridge and ZonePlayer. On your computer screen, it literally shows a picture of the devices with arrows pointing at the buttons you need to press. In less than five minutes (seriously) the Sonos Desktop Controller can have the whole system done and ready to go. Other than that, you just decide whether you want to use one of Sonos’ remote controllers, or get the free Sonos app which runs on the iPhone or iPod Touch. I use the free app, and it it works great: I turn on the iPod Touch, click the “Sonos” icon, then scan my entire music collection and play anything, within a few seconds. Read more »

Factory-Reconditioned Bostitch U/RN46-1 3/4-Inch to 1-3/4-Inch Coil Roofing Nailer

10 years ago I was wary about purchasing factory reconditioned stuff. My opinion has changed greatly. First its tested to make sure that it performs without a hitch. Secondly, it usually offers a longer warranty that if you were to buy it brand new! This roofing nailer worked like a charm roofing my 24×30 barn! After 8,000+ nails it shoots straight and doesn’t jam. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a roofing nailer! Read more »

Delonghi TRD0715T Safe Heat Oil-Filled Radiator

I use this in a 200 square foot office and it works great — and is silent. The timer is especially welcome because I can heat the office before I arrive. When the heater is not on, it can heat a small room in 30 minutes. The heater works so well that sometimes clients will ask me to turn it down becuase it gets so hot. I have been through several types of heating options (such as fan heaters), but finally found the one that works well. My only complaints are the ultra low-tech timer and the imprecise thermostat. This product could be dramatically improved with a digital thermostat and timer. Read more »

Wagner Spray Tech 520000 Power Tex Texture Sprayer

I needed to spray a 4X8 ft. section of ceiling I replaced and had to match the existing popcorn ceiling. Purchased Homax texture and used the Power Tex to do this. After mixing the popcorn, I took a piece of scrap drywall to practice on. It took one swipe and the texture was perfect. Do recommend you do a test spray each time you use a new batch of texture. The second batch I made up, I thought I had just right, but when I test sprayed, it was too thin and ran down the drywall scrap. You cannot tell where the repair is, it matched up perfectly. You can control the amount you are spraying and I sprayed three light coats to slowly match the existing ceiling. The Tex is the ticket for small repairs or spraying small rooms. It does get a little heavy spraying extended times so doing an entire house would be tough and slow. Haven’t tried other textures, but the Power Tex made a job I thought I might need a pro to do very easy. Did I mention it is too easy to clean? well it is. Read more »

Schlage BE365VCAM619 Camelot Keypad Deadbolt, Satin Nickel

We got ours from the local Lowes, and it came in an open box. The excuse Lowes had was that there is a lot of store theft for these products so they un-box them (?) to upper shelves! Vain as it sounds, I have always wanted these. – It can be a hassle to walk in the door with a ton of grocery bags and then have to fumble for keys. – Esp. with two large puppies clamoring to get in before you. – It is so convenient to be able to give a ‘guest code’ to friends, workers, and of course – guests :) You can always delete/alter the guest code later with ease. – You don’t have to get up in the middle of the night to answer the door for your spouse when they fly into town (no, he doesn’t always carry his keys and yes, he forgets/looses them quite often) I designed my door around this lock. We were thinking about replacing the front entry doors and instead, I decided I would just give a lick of paint to the door and install new hardware, this one included. It was not hard to convince my husband – $3k vs less than $300 was an easy sell ;) Here is a pic – and no, the blue is not as gaudy as this picture makes it out to be :p So go ahead – get one, it is a beauty! Note: I would say still have a spare key somewhere outside. I have heard the battery lives a long long time, but I always keep a key with my trusty neighbours. Read more »

Werner MT-22 300-Pound Duty Rating Telescoping Multi-Ladder, 22-Foot

I wanted a ladder that gave me the versatility of the Little Giant, but without the high $$$. I’ll admit, this ladder is a little bit heavy and could be slightly difficult for some to lug around, but other than the weight, it’s a great ladder. It’s very sturdy and high quality. Everyone who has come by my house and seen the ladder has remarked on how it’s exactly what they need as well. I think I should get some kind of commission from Werner! I would recommend this to anyone. Read more »
